This week's featured group is Making Love To Life -- what a wonderful way to celebrate Peace Day! I invite you to listen to their song, Things of This World, on our New Artists page (click on The Artists/Music on the column to the left). This song is both playful and profound. Its catchy tune and fun lyrics (what's this about elephants and cheese?) make it appealing to adults and children alike -- but its message is enough to throw one into an existential crisis (in a good way).
It compares "things of this world" (which includes everything from heirloom tomatoes to helicopters to religion) to the divine... namely, love. It challenges us to recognize the difference between earthly and divine and that, as human beings, our connection with the divine is through our love.
So many things of this world are born of fear and misunderstanding. But, we have a choice. We can keep on creating the same ol' things of this world... or we can create from love. Even the earthly things -- a house for example. It can be built of bricks and mortar, or bamboo, or wood, or clay. But, what is its true foundation? We can look to Gaza and other places to understand what can happen when a community is built on anger or hatred or fear. Let's build them on love.
