Unlike the society portrayed in Aldous Huxtley's novel, Brave New World, the brave new world about which Kate Wallace (this week's featured artist) sings is a hopeful and empowered one.
Kate sings about being able to "finally see the light that's shining through a crack in the prison wall." This glimpse of hope, this ray of possibility is empowering... "I'm gonna set myself free... I'm gonna soar like an angel and smile like a woman reborn... into a brave new world."
This week, the world was surprised when President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and many believe that it's undeserved -- or at least premature. But, perhaps this decision reflects a vision of a brave new world -- a vision that President Obama shares. In his acceptance speech, he mentioned that vision: building a "world in which conflicts are resolved peacefully, and prosperity is widely shared."
TheDreamContinued is wholeheartedly in support of that vision, and we take Kate's lyrics about living by example to heart: "I'm gonna be the walking example, the dedicated living proof that it's a brave new world." So, even though we're not there yet, we will continue dedicating ourselves to peace and justice until that brave new world is a reality for everyone.
