If you've read the ABOUT page, you may recall that the idea for Dream On! began while listening to a sermon of Dr. King's that had originally been given at Temple Israel in Hollywood, CA, in 1965. The recording had been lost in the archives for years, but was rediscovered 2 years ago, and a portion of it was broadcast on NPR on MLK's celebrated birthday last year.

This morning, President Barack Obama spoke words of hope tempered by cautious realism. He spoke of the importance of unity and the dangerous divisiveness of fear. Although he did not directly reference Dr. King, President Obama's themes echoed those emphasized by the Civil Rights leader almost 50 years ago.

Today, people around the country celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dream. From his hometown of Atlanta to New York City to Los Angeles, millions of people remembered the man, the movement that he led, and the inspiration that he provided. This year, his legacy is particularly relevant as the world watches as inaugural preparations begin... and another important moment in history is celebrated.
