Su-Shan Lai http://www.myspace.com/mellowyellowcookie
Su-Shan is originally from Pottstown, PA. She has explored many studies and many jobs, including 4 years of voice and running her own salon, in the attempt to find her true path.
At age 15, Su-Shan was nationally published for an article about subjective cultural isolation for U.S.A. Weekend, weeks after they had requested submissions for teenagers’ views on race. While she was happy in her accomplishment, she later received hate mail sent to her school from an individual claiming to be a member of White Power from California, where she ironically now resides. The writer had really nothing to say about her article, but informed her that she should never have children because her Asian half would taint an offspring with a Caucasian partner and her Caucasian half was too good to mix with another race. Unfortunately, this temporarily scared her away from further sharing her views and her message.
Years later and considerably less afraid, Su-Shan is finally pursuing a life of art because she believes creativity with good intention is the greatest means to serve oneself and others and she has always wanted to be of service. Su-Shan has found inspiration through her work with non-profits involving children in psychiatric crisis, homeless adolescents, at-risk youth in foster care, and children’s theatre. She has been reminded of the importance of gratitude and care through her work in residential care with adults with brain injuries, in addiction recovery, and with mental challenges.
Somewhere between her belief that it takes a village to raise a child and seeing a mother who had just found out that her soldier son had been killed, Su-Shan found the words for Good Citizen. Su-Shan, who’s also known as Slai Washko, is an actress, a writer and a singer in Los Angeles who aims to be a part of media that maintains and restores hope.
