Aliza Hava http://www.alizahava.com
Aliza Hava is not your typical singer/songwriter. This fiery songstress is firmly dedicated to using the healing power of music to inspire personal and global transformation. A breathtakingly explosive performer, her introspective, well-crafted lyrics explore the deepest levels of love, life, spirituality, and the importance of positive social change.
Hava's debut, RISE, was released on her own label, FireMusicFaerie Productions. RISE is an artistic statement of conscience calling for an end to war and a growing awareness of our environmental responsibility. With a blend of classic rock and folk influence, tracks have been heard on XM Satellite Radio, WBAI Peace & Justice Radio, STAR 93.3 FM, LastFm, and independent radio stations throughout the country and overseas, including All for Peace Radio in Israel/Palestine.
Hava's muse first visited her at the age of nine when she began writing songs about breaking the cycles of child abuse and runaway children. Growing up in a violent home, she turned to songwriting to deal with the pain. Shortly after discovering her talent, she wouldn't write again for another seven years. At sixteen, she picked up a guitar for the first time and began to explore her abilities as songwriter more fully.
In high school, when she discovered the anti-war music of the 60's and 70's, Hava found a new direction for her voice. "I realized a lot as a teenager, so I had a tendency to put a message of light or a spiritual approach into my songs. I always felt that there was some deeper message I had to get across."
With an interest in the relationship between holistic health and music, she went on to study Music Therapy at The State University of New York at New Paltz. "It spoke through a different aspect of my personality," she says. "Music Therapy is a pathway to healing that can act on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels simultaneously." While cultivating her knowledge of the therapeutic uses of music in college, she developed her skills as a singer, songwriter and guitarist, producing several demos before the release of her 2006 debut, RISE.
Hava has been a featured artist at the The United Nations, and she represents the international NGO Pathways to Peace, a non-profit that promotes peacebuilding through projects like The Culture of Peace Initiative http://www.cultureofpeaceinitiative.org and the International Day of Peace http://www.internationaldayofpeace.org, September 21st of each year. She has performed at social justice events throughout the U.S. and the Middle East, where her song RISE has been called an anthem for Israeli/Palestinian peace.
Hava has shared the stage with Michael Franti and Spearhead, Matisyahu, Richie Havens, Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band), Derek Trucks, Jen Durkin, and Deep Banana Blackout. She has performed at NYC’s Madison Square Garden, The Apollo Theater, The Rainbow Room, and venues throughout the U.S. and abroad.
